The Guaranty story began in 1966 when Herb Nill purchased a small-town Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership in Junction City, Oregon. In the early 1970s, the Pontiac franchise was added, bringing a third premium General Motors line to the business. Guaranty Chevrolet-Pontiac-Oldsmobile continued to grow at a moderate rate, with the help of the now-famous advertising message, "Eggs are cheaper in the country, and so are cars and trucks." The message reflected Junction City's past as an inexpensive source of fresh food in the pre-World War II era.
While recreational vehicles had been around in one form or another for decades, local start-up manufacturers began producing high-quality RVs in the 1970s. One of those companies, Caribou Coach Corporation, helped Herb Nill get started with two vehicles. Things fell into place and by 1977-78, Guaranty was doing brisk business with its RV products. Caribou Coach Corporation was re-named Monaco Coach Corporation in 1977, meaning Guaranty was Monaco's first dealer partner, a relationship that still thrives today. Country Coach, another local manufacturer, unveiled its first "Class A" motorhome in 1979, helping to usher in an era of full-time living in full-size RVs for many enthusiasts. And Guaranty was right there for the coming boom.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Guaranty continued to grow, adding more products and facilities to meet the rising demand for RVs of all shapes and sizes. Not content to cater to just the motorhome crowd, Guaranty added a travel trailer and fifth wheel center in the mid-80s. Facilities were expanded beyond Oregon as well to include locations in Indio, and eventually, Gilroy, California. Eggs were still cheaper in the country, but no one could mistake the fact that Guaranty sold "Motorhomes, motorhomes, motorhomes... and trailers too," as Herb Nill would make famous in the contemporary TV and radio advertising. By the end of the century, Guaranty was easily the largest RV dealer in Oregon and one of the largest in the nation.
Strong business continues in the 21st century, with Guaranty adapting to the changing expectations and demands of customers and the marketplace. The original automotive dealership is now Guaranty Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM Certified, with General Motors' retirement of the Oldsmobile nameplate in 2004. The automotive dealership has also carved a niche as Oregon's used truck headquarters, with over 150 pre-owned pickup trucks and SUVs in inventory. Guaranty RV's California locations were reduced in favor of a seasonal winter location in Yuma, Arizona to meet the growing demand of "snowbird" RVers. A second Oregon location was added in 2000 along Interstate 5 just north of Eugene to house premiere diesel pusher motorhomes from manufacturers such as Country Coach, Monaco, Newmar and Travel Supreme. And of course with the increased importance of the Internet to today's consumer, Guaranty continues to impress with an industry-leading website. Guaranty is also proud to continue supporting the Oregon-built brands that have made Oregon an RVing Mecca: Country Coach, Fleetwood, Monaco, Northwood, Safari & Skyline. Boasting an amazing selection of recreational vehicles, from entry-level tent campers to the most luxurious diesel pushers built, "We don't just sell fun, we Guaranty it"!
Guaranty continues to reign as the largest RV dealer in Oregon and one of the largest in the nation, with nearly 1,000 new and used vehicles in stock reflecting dozens of brands. Customers continue to enjoy the close factory connection we offer being moments away from manufacturers such as Country Coach and Monaco. Guaranty Chevrolet, for its part, is consistently recognized as a regional leader in the automotive sales field. More than 400 of Oregon's best and brightest call Guaranty a great place to work and the dealership is still fully owned and operated by the Nill Family, with patriarch Herb serving as dealer of the RV division while his son Shannon acts as dealer for the automotive division. With over 40 years in business and a lasting legacy built on selection, service and savings, the future at Guaranty looks as bright as its past.
